Double Review: The Royal We + The Heir Affair

“I might be Cinderella today, but I dread who they’ll think I am tomorrow. I guess it depends on what I do next.” – Goodreads

Title: The Royal We

Author: Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

Genre: Romance

Format: ebook from Kobo

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy tales. Her twin sister, Lacey, has always been the romantic who fantasized about glamour and royalty, fame and fortune. Yet it’s Bex who seeks adventure at Oxford and finds herself living down the hall from Prince Nicholas, Great Britain’s future king. And when Bex can’t resist falling for Nick, the person behind the prince, it propels her into a world she did not expect to inhabit, under a spotlight she is not prepared to face.

Dating Nick immerses Bex in ritzy society, dazzling ski trips, and dinners at Kensington Palace with him and his charming, troublesome brother, Freddie. But the relationship also comes with unimaginable baggage: hysterical tabloids, Nick’s sparkling and far more suitable ex-girlfriends, and a royal family whose private life is much thornier and more tragic than anyone on the outside knows. The pressures are almost too much to bear, as Bex struggles to reconcile the man she loves with the monarch he’s fated to become.

Which is how she gets into trouble.

Now, on the eve of the wedding of the century, Bex is faced with whether everything she’s sacrificed for love-her career, her home, her family, maybe even herself-will have been for nothing.

The Royal We was such a fantastic read! If you have any interest in the royals then I think you will like this story!

It follows Bex and her love interest Nick. Bex is in England to attend University and just happens to meet and fall in love with Nick (the Prince of Wales)… like what??? What are the chances!

Bex and Nick get into a relationship but of course, there are complications because she is American. You follow them through their relationship ups and downs and all sorts of other dramas they get themselves into!

I really enjoyed this! I loved the drama between Bex and the royal family. I also really liked the media aspect to this story! It really shows you how much the media can damage people and just how involved they are in the royals life! At times I was so upset with the media and LET ME TELL YOU… no one can be trusted when it comes to the media! There is a pretty shocking twist that happens that really hurt my heart!

The characters are so perfect!! Each character is well developed and purposeful. I personally think the characters made this book. They were all so relatable and I felt connected to them like they were my own friends.

I felt the pace of the story was good! I could never put the book down lol at the end of the chapters I always needed to read on to figure out what happened next! It was well written and just a really fun story! I loved every second of it.

Title: The Heir Affair

Author: Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

Publisher: Grand Central Publishing

Genre: Romance

Format: Physical ARC

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Making it up the aisle was the easy part: After marrying the heir to the throne, Rebecca “Bex” Porter must survive her own scandals as she adjusts to life in the glamorous British royal family, in this “highly anticipated” follow-up to The Royal We, the “fun and dishy” bestseller and NYT Summer Reading List pick inspired by Will and Kate’s romance (People).

After a scandalous secret turns their fairy-tale wedding into a nightmare, Rebecca “Bex” Porter and her husband Prince Nicholas are in self-imposed exile. The public is angry. The Queen is even angrier. And the press is salivating. Cutting themselves off from friends and family, and escaping the world’s judgmental eyes, feels like the best way to protect their fragile, all-consuming romance.

But when a crisis forces the new Duke and Duchess back to London, the Band-Aid they’d placed over their problems starts to peel at the edges. Now, as old family secrets and new ones threaten to derail her new royal life, Bex has to face the emotional wreckage she and Nick left behind: with the Queen, with the world, and with Nick’s brother Freddie, whose sins may not be so easily forgotten — nor forgiven.

If you like crazy royal family drama then you will like this book!

The drama in The Heir Affair was fantastic. I loved every second. In this one, Rebecca and Nick have to come back from hiding because of a family emergency. They quickly discover it was just a trick and they now have to deal with the mess they left behind.

Character wise – I enjoyed the focus on Rebecca and Nick. We really get to see Rebecca grow and change. She really steps up and takes on some responsibility in order to prove herself to the royal family! However, I missed all the friends in this one. They take on a different role so they are part of the story, but its just different. Queen Eleanor was also a large focus during this book and let me say, I LOVED IT. It was so entertaining having her be more part of the story. She is totally witty and rude throughout but we also get to know her and uncover some family mysteries which I liked!

I really liked how the story did not rush through anything. There is a lot of family drama and hurt feelings in this one. Some books would just touch on the surface of these and then quickly resolve the issues… but not here. I loved how we get to feel the hurt and sadness along with the characters and how the authors let those feelings drag through the book like they would in real life.

I loved The Royal We and thought it was so fantastic so I was worried this one might not live up to it but NOPE! The Heir Affair was just as juicy and awesome! I think this time around the character development was better and I felt so connected to Rebecca and her sister Lacey. Love those characters

Overall, this was a great sequel and I loved it so much. The characters were so good and relatable! The insight into Nick and the royal family was awesome. I enjoyed the drama and the secrets!! If you like anything to do with the royals or just like a good family drama with some laughs along the way then I think you will like this!!

Have you read these books? I thought they were just so much fun to read. I love royal stuff so these were a treat!!
