When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.
But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future.
After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.
That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision.
WOW. This was really not what I was expecting! From the start of the story I got some vibes that it would be kind of mediocre just about someone’s everyday life with some sprinkled in romance. Boy, was I wrong!
I want to start this off by saying this is a story of love, loss, sacrifice, and in a way, fate. I felt emotions I didn’t know possible. The author took me on a journey of absolute love. I honestly can say that I didn’t think this was going to be the book for me but it hit me right in the feels in the best way possible.
Dannie, our main girl, is a super successful lawyer. Her fiance, David, is also very successful and together they live the life they always dreamed of. On the night of Dannie and David’s engagement, Dannie has the most vivid dream that she is with another man. The dream is like nothing shes experienced before and that’s where the story begins. Then, 4.5 years later she meets this “dream guy” in a very unexpected circumstance! Her life is changed forever.
While this story has some romance, it really touches on the love of friendship. I really feel like that was the underlying message. This story also touches on some really hard stuff such as cancer and loss. The ending of this book had me SOBBING.
When I was thinking about the book afterwards and trying to figure out what I’d rate it, it hit me that not many books can give you so many feelings. From sadness, happiness, despair, relief, joy… I felt so many things and they all fit together like an amazing song. It was so well written and well thought out, not once did I feel like something did not fit.
The ending was simply heartbreaking but full of hope and new beginnings. It was not fully the ending I hoped for throughout the story but once at the end it really made sense! It could not have ended any other way in my opinion! Read this book, you will not be disappointed.
What do you think? Will you be picking up a copy when it comes out on March 10??
